Guest Post:What Not to Ask An SEO Business

Whenever you are looking for a search professional to work with and improve your website and ranking, you are naturally going to be bursting with questions.
  • · What is it you do?
  • · How will you help to deliver my aims?
  • · When can I expect to see an improvement in my search rankings?
All of those are great questions and ones that you should definitely ask. However, sometimes website owners can ask questions that can lead to either a polite conversation or an SEO firm simply refusing to do business with them.
The irony of all of these questions is that they relate to things that most less than reputable SEO businesses will promise. The moral of this particular story is that if a company can answer these questions you shouldn’t work with them. If you know you’ve found a serious company, then don’t ask.
When Will I Be Number One?
“By the end of the week” is an answer the bad companies will give, and that should set alarm bells ringing immediately.
Why is it such a silly question to ask a genuine search company?
Well, the reason is that it is an impossible question to answer. We estimate Google alone to have over 200 things it factors into search results, and they tweak one or more of them over 400 times during the year. So, if Google are changing their definition of ‘good’ on a daily basis, it is not reasonable to expect even the best SEO to keep up with that.
At the same time, other factors could influence where you rank.
  • · Have you had a penalty in the past because you worked with a black hat SEO?
  • · What on-site SEO is already present?
  • · How much link building have you done and what keywords did you target?
  • · Do you have a blog, and how many readers does it have?
There’s more, but we’d be here all day listing them. If you want to ask something constructive, ask them how long a piece of string is, instead.
When Will You Be Finished?
This is a similar question to the last one, but an important one to address.
“One month SEO” and similar ‘offers’ is the thing to avoid here.
SEO is never finished. Yes, the bulk of the work may be completed in a six or 12 month period, but the reality is that continuous maintenance, link building, keyword research, and much more needs to happen, otherwise you could once again plummet from page one to the lonely SERP backwaters.
When Will My Sales Increase?
You are probably investing in SEO because you want to see a better return on investment when it comes to your online activities. However, a search company cannot tell you when your bottom line will start to grow, because there are too many variables involved.
They should be able to give you an idea of when you can start to climb the search rankings, for example, but ultimately they cannot control whether someone clicks a link, even if it is on page one.
Stick to the simple search questions and let the SEO pros get on with the job. Be wary of guarantees, and anyone who can give definitive answers to these three questions.

Page Rank Myths : Is it really about what you have been thinking all these years?

You all know that page rank is important for your site/blog, it holds as a sign of how much your site is trusted by Google & at the same time it also plays as an important factor to determine your site’s ranking position in the search result. You might have been busy all these years building backlinks for increasing your site’s trustworthiness to big G & page rank as well…right? Like the same old logic … as many links as your site has from different domains, it’s good because it means that your site is trusted by many others…this is what you have been told all these years..well guess what? It doesn’t matter how many back links your site has, it’s never going to improve your site’s page rank whatsoever. Having been working in this field of internet marketing, I have heard people talking about half truths about page ranks every now & then, but after all these years it appeared to be something different from what others have been telling me, so I thought maybe it’s time when I should share my experience with you guys, so here it goes…how to improve PageRank

  • Site age- A popular thought about page rank that it increases with your site’s domain age,to be precise the older your domain is better is the chance of increasing  the page rank..WRONG! it’s just one of many of those seo myths & I have seen new born sites that have been awarded with great PR just because of the quality user experience they deliver to the visitors.

  • Backlinks- Ahhh! The one factor that gave birth to the seo industry (Trust me! There would not be so many SEO experts if it was only about the quality from the very beginning but as you can see the big G got smarter with time & today this industry is not where you should be if you are a link submitter with almost zero common sense) How ever I have seen my article pages getting pr even there is not a single backlink pointing to that page. So I guess the backlink factor doesn’t go well in this case.

  • Site platform- Just another seo myth I would say, I don’t support that Google indexes wordpress blogs/sites more than blogspot or it has a greater chance of getting PR faster. It’s not true, even blogspot or .org and alike domains can get PR as well, on the other hand some domains like .edu, .gov are always blessed by Google & get high pr by default but that shouldn’t discourage you to do blogging on blogger platform.

  • Design- If your site looks great then it can engage your visitors more, and design factor is only limited to this boundary only. It really has nothing to do with PR, but then again if more number of visitors are getting engaged with your site then it can bring your expected reward …high PR.

  • Conent- This is your favorite quote ,as well as of Matt cuts & many other marketing professionals..”content is king” period ! Well this is so true about websites & one can’t deny this…but what does it mean? It means that you should generate some content that could really put a value to the users,it means that if you are a marketing professional then you should not write about rocket science because you know nothing about this, you should not create content for the sake of backlinks only..got my point?

  • Authority- This is not about domain authority people rather it’s  about your authority in the niche you want to delve into in your article, like I said in the last point you shouldn’t try your luck in those topic that you have no idea about. This will make sure that you write only meaningful articles for your visitors for which they might reward you with lots of shares & likes as well.

Trust me  these guidelines can bring your blog high page rank in the next google pr update, all you need to do is creating engaging content rather than putting stress in link building only.

SEO- Blogging & Traffic

Blogging is not a new thing to webmasters & we all know how we can get maximum benefits out of this. But when it comes to seo, things have always changed from the way it used to be…having been working in this field for years , I honestly feel like it that SEO people are really  like cockroaches, everything they touch gets contaminated. The same has happened with blogging also, I have seen a great number of shitty blogs filled with keywords, crap contents & links… it’s not hard to guess the mind setting of these seo’s, everything new they hear about can only relate with submission stuff & blogging is just another kind of submission to these ‘experts’! I do think that the reason behind this is the lack of knowledge, poor quality manpower & seo itself! Because earlier it was too easy to do seo…getting links from thousands of crap site , anyone could do it  but now the scenario has changed and it takes time & qualified manpower to see fruitful results. However I don’t intend to discuss about seo in this post but blogging so let’s get into this…
Your blog content can fall under two categories
  •   Blogs about information that is being circulated for long time on the internet
  •   Blogs about the latest & breaking news/events etc.

  • Blog about recycled information- This type of information may be old & not exciting enough but not necessarily be unimportant. For example an old tutorial may be not as important to those who have been around for a long time in the niche as it would be to the novices of the same niche but still, it will be considered as important by the readers. Whereas it’s not a good idea to fill your blog site with this kind of content only, as it won’t lead you to your target which is to create maximum conversion or maybe just getting traffic.
  • Blogs about latest news/events/technology- Blogs about breaking news, updates always attract people, at the same time it also provides an opportunity to increase your authority in your niche. When you have the latest news about a topic in your niche, people start asking questions because you have the answer. This interaction between you & the readers builds a strong relationship which then coverts into recurring visits to your blog, subscription etc.
  • Socializing-Now you have made a new post in your blog, the first thing you would like to do is to let your social circle know about this, if it’s good enough it will be shared among  your Fb or G+ followers and so on..you must put effort to build up a strong social connection in the first place so as to let the web world know that your blog is there.
  • Title-Choosing the right title is important, forget about the keywords and pay attention about what’s currently happening, what the users are looking for…for example take my post about ‘is seo really dead?” this is one of the most controversial issue & people continuously searching for the answer(especially ‘experts’ lol) so I just used it as the title of my post & eventually it worked ;)
Hopefully these little tricks will help you to build up your blog reputation & traffic as well! Don't forget to drop your comments & check out my site seo company kolkata

Mobile SEO- Need or Want?

Mobile seo..is it just a “want” or a necessity in today's world? Why people are leaning towards mobile seo these days? Before answering these questions ask your self ..do you really know what it takes to do mobile seo or what is this about?? Honestly mobile seo is still in it’s initial stage when everyone is trying to understand mobile web world & how it works, this conclusion can be applied to the users, the companies & the mobile search engines as well!

No one even knows what type of business model would get response from the mobile users, as for the time being we only know that most of the mobile users access web from their mobile or tablets when they are on the move…perhaps looking for information about a nearby restaurant..they are more likely to search for “mainland china restaurant Kolkata” than “cheap handbags”…another logic behind this assumption is that the current mobile devices  provide smaller display which is not good enough to decide whether to buy a T shirt or not, users still prefer desktops or laptops  when they want to shop online from an e commerce site.

The number of smart mobile users  around the world has already exceeded 1 billion & the number is still increasing the moment as we speak. So there is no doubt that sooner or later mobile seo is going to have it’s own perks in web marketing. As for the time being.. there is just a few points  that I would like to tell all the mobile seo guys out there…

1.    Don’t waste your time by applying those old techniques
2.    User experience should always get the prior importance
3.    Make sure your mobile site complies with the  W3C mobile OK standards
4.    Submit your mobile site to all the mobile directories & portals
5.     Minimize the usage of flash or JavaScript, ensuring that your site content’s visibility is good enough to the users as well as to the mobile search engine crawlers
6.    Unlike desktop web, the keywords play a less important role in this new medium so don’t go crazy over the keywords rather make sure that your mobile site delivers a good user experience as much as possible
